
I know I have used this painting By Christ J Otto before, but it helps me imagine what I am writing about today.
Lately, I find myself contemplating the meaning of the following verse.
“Now to him [our Creator] who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,” Ephesians 3:20 NIV
The word immeasurable is too easily glossed over. Here it means more than “really big.” Often immeasurable is translated “abundantly,” but this word also carries the inference of infinity.
Many translations use the word “think” instead imagine, but the original language implies the inability to conceive. Just like the inability to conceive a child, we are unable to grasp with our minds, the greatness of the power of our God working in us.
The words “able” and “power” both come from the root word for dynamite. It is explosively powerful.
And this power is at work in us.
Many will agree that our world is in a state of “disarray” and “discord.” There is no individual or group capable of bringing it to a place of order and peace.
BUT GOD!
This same God has chosen us, His followers, to embody this unimaginable power to help build His kingdom here, on earth as it is in heaven.
Abba is inviting everyone into a relationship with Him and encouraging us to experience then share this power of His perfect love that is too vast to fully imagine. (Isaiah 55:8-9. 1 John 4:18-19)
I leave you with this prayer Paul wrote. It precedes verse 20. May it nudge you through the process of accepting God’s love and growing in it. Ephesians 3:14-19 NLT
“When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father,[e]
the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.[f]
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.
Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
