Summer in Massachusetts offers a variety of experiences. The weather is inconsistent, but the beauty is not. This morning, I sat behind my home watching nature.
Before this summer, I don’t think I ever noticed that wasps are drinking more from my bird bath than the birds do. That is probably only because I have moved it closer to me than usual so they come when I am away,
A little red squirrel is capable of making a lot of noise. When his friends join in, it becomes hard to think, so I pause to listen and enjoy them. They were new to my woodland “neighborhood” last summer. It was so wet then, I was unable to get to know them.
A short distance away I have several lakes, ponds, and trails. My dog loves swimming. Lakes are her favorite. She is not a fan of kiddie pools, except as a large drinking bowl. This photo is from one of her favorite “swimming holes.” As you can see, she is quite happy to cool off on a hot summer day.
The American celebration of our Declaration of Independence from England happens on July 4th, in the middle of summer. I enjoy the firework displays, however, my dog does not!
2024 marks 248 years since the beginning of our struggle for freedom.
