Very God: A Book Review

Very God: an artist explores the nicene creed, is the title of a very important book that I read recently. The author, Christ John Otto, walks us through the Nicene creed one line at time.

This book is not my first-time exploring creeds in detail. The idea may sound “already been there done that,” boring, but trust me it is not.

As an artist, Christ, (Christ rhymes with wrist,) brings art to the work on many levels. First of all, you will enjoy its unusual, easy to read, artistic layout. It is unmistakably different.

Originally, I thought I would breeze through it quickly. I was wrong, for all the right reasons. The profound nature of Very God invited me to slow down. Time is helpful to digest the history and original language explanations that Christ, inspired by the Holy Spirit, brings to life.

Here is a small excerpt:

“But as I study Scripture,

and follow these threads,

the picture

in the original languages

is more and more clear.

God is the artist,

the designer,

the Author of Beauty,

the King of Creation,

and is preparing a thing for us

and we are his masterpiece.” [PP. 85-86]

Until Easter, Very God: an artist explores the nicene creed, Kindle version is on sale for $.99 USD.

If you do not consider yourself an artist, please do not balk at this original piece. We are all uniquely created by the Creator of all things. We are his workmanship.

Let’s explore these foundational tenants of our faith so we can increasingly enjoy who we are, and who our Very God is.

I encourage you to check it out. I suspect Abba will show you great and mighty things you did not know. (Jeremiah 33:3) He did that for me.

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
