The Mind of Christ

Who has the mind of Christ? Is the mind of Christ something we can actually have, considering how clearly our Creator knows more than we do? Isaiah 55:8-9

1 Corinthians 2 is key to answering these questions. It ends with the statement “But we have the mind of Christ.”  What is in front of that definitive statement?

We who have the Spirit of the Lord, our Creator, have the mind of Christ.

This requires a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The moment we enter that relationship, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:13 This fact makes it a reality by virtue of our position as followers of Christ.

But wait, there’s more.

This relationship with our Creator opens the door to the process of transformation into the likeness of Christ. Abba grants access to true wisdom and His ways through divine revelation from the Spirit. 1 Cor. 2:10 This fact makes it a process as well as a position.

Those without the Holy Spirit cannot understand the mind of Christ, because they do not have access to the Holy Spirit through Jesus. But we have “…the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every one mature in Christ.” Colossians 1:27b-28

Accepting the invitation of the Holy Spirit brings growth. This happens best when we learn more of the Bible, preferably in community, alongside mature followers of Jesus. These actions accelerate the revelation of the mind of Christ.

We all bring baggage and brokenness to our relationship with Jesus.

Graciously, He invites us to give Him our baggage. The more of it we give, the more room we have for the mind of Christ. Ephesians 4:22-24

“. . .one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13b-14

Growing the mind of Christ is about letting go, in exchange for divine revelation.

Sometimes, it is difficult.

Always, it is worth it.

Abba, forgive me for being distracted from You for whatever reason. (Fill in the blank) I choose to turn to You, engaging the process of transforming my mindsets. I ask for increasing revelation of the mysteries of the mind of Christ, so I can help others be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Amen

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
