Slow Down

Have you ever been in such a rush to action that you forget at ask God for guidance? It is sage advice that reminds us to slow down. The acceleration in the world is working to get us out of sync with the rhythm of the father heart of God.

The perceived urgency of anything presents the possibility of being pulled off track. Whenever we are uncertain, or possibly too certain of our next step, it is wisdom to slow down and seek the face of the Lord.

Abba has been training me for many years to slow down and seek the face of God first. I am improving, but occasionally seeking God first may be my second, or third response. Is this the result of tapping back into old habits? Or am I too focused in the future, so that I neglect the present?

Slowing down might mean, “be still and know that I am God,” but a complete stop is not always the answer. Down shifting to an unhurried pace allows us to hear God more clearly. This works especially well when we breathe, finding our rhythm in the rhythm of God’s heartbeat for us.

Like John at the last supper: “One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus’ side,”[Greek: in the bosom of JesusJohn 13:23

Positionally, Abba has already “raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,” Ephesians 2:6 We also have a standing invitation from Abba, to rise up above the acceleration to be with him Revelation 4:1

It is our choice. Will we redirect our tendency to run ahead of or lag behind the Lord? It is in choosing to slow down that we are able to recalibrate. By leaning into His heartbeat, our callings and destinies are free to flow at His pace.

Abba,

Forgive me for getting distracted from You.

Thank you for continually inviting us up to be with You and opening the way. Recalibrate my heartbeat to match what You intend for me. And thank you for your eternal flow of grace and joy that pour from Your endless love. Amen

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
