Who is faithful? Are you? Am I ? What is faithfulness?
I looked at a few definitions and decided the Creator of ALL things might have something to say about the subject.
I think Deuteronomy 7:9 sums it up nicely.
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,”
Being faithful is about commitment, loyalty, and covenant keeping. For people, their word is their bond, and they meet their obligations.
True faithfulness is also carried out gently and lovingly, and it is mutual. That means ideally, it is a two-way transaction. Actually no, it is not a transaction like a business contract.
It is about relationships.
I am told I am faithful, but I know I am inadequate to consistently hold up my end. It is the same for everyone. None of us can fully uphold our end of our relationships, with our God and with people. Mercifully our Creator’s help is given freely. God loves us.
The wonder is, Our Creator chose us first. We would all be lost without our faithful, covenant keeping God. Everyone is created in the image of the one who made us.
We are imperfect by our choices, yet God has redeemed us.
We are best when we receive the Love of God, leaning into that relationship. By following basic guidelines such as the Golden Rule, we are holding up our end of the relationship. Our relationship with our Creator grows from there, and so does our faithfulness to God and to people.
We are faithful, with the help of the Lord.
And the Lord is always faithful.
Beautifully said! Thank you. Diane
