Our Creator is so vast and so transcendent and yet incarnate and indwelling that we cannot possibly experience all of Him in this life. Our Creator is multifaceted. We cannot see or experience all of Him at once.
Graham Cooke talks about how our loving Abba knows what part of Him we need to connect with each day. We only have to ask our Creator, what part of Him does He want me to experience today?
“Who do you want to be for me today?”
For me, today, I need to experience the grace, rest and healing of God. Life has been quite full, plus I took a tumble that sent me to the chiropractor immediately. The combination has me taking it slow for a few days.
That is not my default gear. . . !
I have a long history of living by lists. (I am growing in having God initiate what belongs on my list.)
So, when I prayed and asked the Graham Cook’s question: “Who do you want to be for me today?” I knew today, Abba would be my shepherd, companion, and the restorer of my body, soul, and spirit. And likely for a few days.
From experience I know, that when I agree to give Him my all too often oversized “to do” list, He graciously holds, or reassigns things on it until He gives it back. The wonderful thing is, when I receive the list again, He has been working on the list. That is the best part. I need to stay close to Him.
The truth is that “my list” is not who I am. This all too easy to forget sometimes.
Another truth is, I desire to only do what I see the father doing. Yet I clearly have not arrived at that goal. Keeping my eyes on the Father, however, does help me to decide how to choose what is ultimately important.
Asking God: “Who do you want to be for me today?” does not guarantee that He will be my rest. He may offer to be my strength, or mighty warrior, or any other of the facets that He is.
Having my gaze on the One who loves me without condition, the definition of Agape love, is both grounding and healing.
How are you growing in the experiential understanding of your relationship with our Creator, and your true identity?
That question doesn’t make sense
Who do you want to be for me today!
So annoying -what are you trying to ask!!
Hi Pam,
I am saying, God is the source of everything we need. Our relationship with God is the most important part of what we need. Instead of asking for things, we ask what part of WHO God is will mintier to us today, any given day. We invite God to be our true Abba.
What do you need today? How does He want to meet that need for you, especially relationally.
I hope this helps!
Blessings,
Andrea
