Certain?

Are you certain about something? I have come to believe that certainty in life is not actually very certain at all. “Nothing is certain except death and taxes” was made famous by Ben Franklin. While I do not argue with his statement, I will add a third certainty. The certainty of Change is solid.

As I looked over my years of blogs, I found several on the topics of shift, transition, seasons, and other synonyms for change. Sensing I was feeling all of those again, I realized Change is also certain.

Fortunately, Our Creator is more certain than death and taxes.

I am not saying I understand his ways all the time. He even promises we won’t, because we are children, not His equal. The good news is: He never changes. James 1:17 God is loving and forgiving. Also, He is Mighty to save and full of compassion. . . and so much more.

In the middle of our lack of understanding, and our personal and corporate uncertainties, let’s choose to rely on the rock of our salvation. Psalm 95

When certainty is impossible, Abba says, “Be still and know that I am God.” There is never a good time to doubt, regardless of what we may feel.

Abba, I choose to worship You in Spirit and in Truth. . . because You are the most certain, even the ultimate truth to rest on.

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.

  1. Thank you, Andrea, for the encouragement. It appears the Spirit of the Lord is speaking a lot about change these days. For me, it seems a time for fresh lessons about a new season.

    1. Yes David,
we also need to look at the Hebrew calendar to understand these changes a bit more. That new year began near the end of September. If you look at a few of my more recent posts some these things are touched on. The Good News is that Our Loving God never changes.
Blessings to you as you navigate the current (pun not originally intended) changes you face in this season!
      Andrea

  2. There is a French expression, “The more things change, the more things stay the same.” We will always be imperfect and God will always be perfect. He is a solid rock we can always rely on!

Thank you for your post Andrea!
