Inertia

This morning as I was praying about direction, when the Holy Spirit brought the word “inertia,” to mind.

To be certain about what the Lord wants me to think and pray about. I looked up Inertia and found that Newton’s first law of motion states:

“1) A body at rest tends to remain at rest. 2) A body in motion tends to remain in motion at a constant velocity unless acted on by a net external force.”

One example of inertia could be a ball that is still on the grass. It will not move on its own. It will sit there until something or someone, like an athlete of your sport of choice, makes it move, or a dog owner with a chuck-it stick.

A ball that is already moving, say in the air or on the grass will keep moving, until friction from the air or grass slows it down, or something or someone redirects or stops it. For example, a dog catching the ball from the chuck-it.

We have all experienced this whether we were thinking about Newton’s the laws or not.

How does this apply to the Kingdom of God?

Years ago, I was on a team planning an international conference and the director needed to focus on the big picture. The leadership team asked me to help steward the other details.

Fortunately, each of us believed in the vision and were already moving in unison towards the same goal. With the synergy of the team, we brought Christian women from all over the world together to consider and begin equipping them to be more fruitful in the marketplace for the Lord.

The conference was so well received that it led to another conference and eventually to The Significance Project. This is a transferable curriculum that is expanding across the world. It began for women and now has a men’s track. I am no longer directly involved but help from a distance occasionally. I rejoice seeing how it continues to expand, bringing Glory to God.

Overcoming a state of resting spiritual inertia of a non-existent, vague, or stagnant vision happens when God finds people who desire to do His will.

Intimacy with God enables us to step out in faith. As we see and hear what He is doing and engage with Him by faith, get the ball rolling.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11

Abraham believed God, so did Sarah, Noah, Moses, David, Daniel, and all the disciples who died for not renouncing Jesus, to list only a few.

“In him we live and move and have our being.” Acts 17

As we move out with Him, we have the inertia and increased momentum to be directed and redirected as He reveals the way.

I hope it is reasonable to say this blog, especially today, but possibly this entire endeavor, is a small example of stepping out obediently by faith.

Whether Abba invites you to sit down, stand up, or step out, I pray we all draw closer to Him, accepting His invitations to do our parts for the expansion of His Kingdom.

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
