Jesus gave us the clear foundations of life and worship. We are to live and worship in Spirit and in truth.
“Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” 1 Peter 3:15
Jesus said . . . “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.” . . .
“But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:21-24
We are all born with a Body, a Soul, and a Spirit.
Our bodies constantly remind us that we are tied in time, and created in flesh, Which requires attention. We are in the world but not of this world, and we will eventually receive new bodies. 2 Corinthians 5.
Our souls include our intellect, will and emotions. Every time we say “I” (me, myself and I) our soul is involved. Matthew 22:37; Matthew 10:28.
Our spirits are eternal. We are all created for eternal life, preferably with Jesus. Isaiah 57:15; Psalm 73:26; Psalm 51:10. Our spirits are also separated from God until each chooses to make Him Lord of our lives. In his book, Let The Nations Be Glad, John Piper pointed out that the Great Commission/evangelism exists, because worship [of our Creator] does not.
Our earthly worship is something we carry with us everywhere we go and in everything we do.
Jesus clarifies this point in John 14:17 “He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.[a]” That time is now.
Recently, I took a fresh look at my own life. With the shifts in life accelerating, I found some corrections I can make to keep my trajectory on course.
Please take a moment to ask yourself, what, and how am I living and worshiping?
Am I genuinely and more than less consistently surrendering and worshiping the God of Creation in spirit and in Truth?
God gives us everything necessary to live, and worship, in spirit and in truth.
May we seek Him consistently with all our beings: body, soul, mind, and spirit, bowing in reverent surrender.
“Bowing in reverent surrender.” I will remember these words daily!
Yes, we are not God, but we know the One who is! ;-}
Amen
