Doggie Triathlon

What in the world is a Doggie Triathlon? A triathlon for people includes three long distance races that take place one after the other on the same day.

There are four different categories of difficulty for people. With Doggie Triathlons, it is much less a completion to the finish than about desires to be satisfied.

For people, the different legs of the event include swimming, running, and bicycling. People train for months and sometimes years to compete. Dogs partake to by giftings and other variables, depending on how they enjoy their category’s participation.

That brings us back to the original question, “What in the world is a Doggie Triathlon? I walk my dog daily. Her favorite routes are in the woods, especially the woods that have swimming options!

By breed she is a bird hunting dog, so swimming is a favorite activity of hers. Generally, she gets bored with playing fetch on land, but throw a stick in the lake and in she dives!

Running is also a thing she loves. I run with her some, but I am not twenty anymore! Time off leash in the woods is her delight. It allows her to run freely at her own pace, and sometimes with other dogs.

Bicycling is not exactly a dog event, but as I came out of the woods with her this week, I realized she gratefully ran and swam. For some reason that made me think of a triathlon.

The other “event” she adores, to replace bicycling, is sniffing! Dogs need to exercise their sense of smell. In the woods there are birds, bugs, deer, fox, bunnies, and every other kind of woodland animal. What a feast for her doggie senses!

It is fascinating how our Creator makes every person, plant and animal differently. Those differences bring enjoyment to each of us and to our Creator.

I have no interest in participating in a triathlon, but taking my dog for her “Doggie Triathlon” brings me joy!

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
