Change, But Not Changing

Change is one of the few things that is certain in life. Changing with the circumstances can be wisdom, or it can be foolishness. What is the difference between those results? I like what Jesus had to say.

24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Matthew 7:24-27

We can change with the changes or become irrelevant. But what does that look like for people who are grounded on The Rock? A little about today’s inspiration first.

In less than a week I have attended two memorial services. There are few things like having the sense of our mortality highlighted to cause one to do at least a cursory review of life. My review has deepened and renewed my call to participate in the advancement of God’s Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven. I pray to that end. My desire remains to write with the hopes of encouraging and inspiring you to seek the face of God, experiencing at least one fresh drop of love every time you look His way.

I am not changing anything related to The Rock I have built my life on. I genuinely look forward to continuing this journey of writing with Our Abba. Nearly every week is a new adventure for me, as I hope it is for you.

I hope you have already experienced my fully updated website: andreavanboven.com. With that already spruced up, I am led to do a little “remodeling and fresh landscaping” in my communications. Now is the time to begin some change, or maybe only tinker with, how I communicate with you. I suspect most, if not all may be slow and imperceptible.

“Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.” Ps 95:1

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.

  1. Thanks for the reminder that our foundation in the Rock, Jesus Christ should never change. But, He may lead us to change methods or ways of spreading God’s Word. Love u Sister
