Blessings Have the Power to Create Shifts

Blessings have the power to create shifts. Years ago, I read about a study where someone had two sets of plants. They had identical physical and biological environments, but the difference was how the person spoke to the plants. One set was spoken to with anger and curses. The other set of plants were spoken to kindly and blessed. I think you know where I am going. . . .

Yes, the results are nearly, if not exactly, identical with people, and even our circumstances. The cursed plants withered and many died. The blessed plants flourished. In the average daily life of a person, there are many more variables. This is where the power of blessings is increasingly in our own hands.

When others revile and curse us, we have the power to accept the words or reject them. The same goes for the blessings. When we receive them, good or ill, that is what grows in and around us. When we understand, and remember who we are in Christ, and all the rights and privileges of our eternal position, we are able to create shifts

What kinds of shifts? In almost every area of our lives and circumstances.

So, how do we help blessings have the power to create shifts our lives?

Understanding who were are in Christ is the foundation.

The next step is to reject the unkind and untruthful words, in the authority of Jesus. That makes room for the truth of who our Creator says we are to take root. We break out from under the cloud others put on us, and often words we have been trained to own.

Now we have room for blessings. Our own spoken blessings, founded on the Word of God, begin to reshape the spaces we live in, both in our bodies and in the spaces we occupy.

Often these blessings enter our eye gate as we read, preparing to speak. These truths form in our brain, laying a foundation for transformation.

When the blessings are spoken out to the atmosphere around us, we are building on the internal shifts.

When the sound of the blessings enters our ears, they land in our being, expanding the transformation that has begun.

For a change to take hold, the brain needs repetition. Only three times and new neuropathways are born. In 28 days they are complete, but more time is needed to make them strong. With a couple more months, the blessings, or anything else we speak regularly, transform into new habits.

I love how this works for us personally, but I especially appreciate how this operates on others around us. Blessings have the power to create shifts, so let’s share them.

I love to offer a word of encouragement or an act of kindness to people who often go unseen. People who clean buildings or deliver packages are some of my favorites. Many times a simple thank you is all it takes to brighten someone’s day. Learning their name if they are people you see often goes a long way in blessing them.

Imagine if everyone added a blessing to someone else in the form of a thank you or encouragement every day.

Abba, help us to begin by seeing ourselves as you do, seated with you in the heavenlies. As we learn to receive your blessings for ourselves, show us hurting people around us that You are calling us to bless. We choose to be agents of transformation by using blessings to shift atmospheres. Here we are Lord, use us. Amen

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
