Come Up Here

Come up here. That could mean many things if one does not know the context. For example, the meaning of my last name. The direct translation from Dutch of Van Boven is, “from above.” The actual use of van boven in a sentence, is more often used to communicate “from the north,” or, “from upstairs.” Personally, I enjoy the literal translation.=} Translation and meaning are always about context.

The context of today’s use of, “Come up here,” is my personal prayer time. I like to talk with the Lord, speaking and listening. The phrase was the beginning of what I heard in my spirit. Recognizing that what I heard is already in the Word of God helps me discern that I am really hearing the Lord.

Our Creator knows my context, and everything about me, better than I know myself. Like most people these days, I have a lot of question about direction and expectations. What I heard from the Lord as I continued to listen made a lot of sense to me. I will share what I heard, line by line, followed by some of my “translation” pertaining to my personal context. I am also adding some of the Biblical references that influence my interpretation, because they are all passages in the Bible I am already familiar with.

Come up here to pull down what you need down here.

Revelations 4:1 Our Creator is all knowing and present everywhere. That explains the “come up here” and the “need down here.” Abba is up here and down here, all the time. Followers of Jesus are seated with Him in heavenly places. Ephesians 2:6 At the same time we occupy space and have authority here. (Genesis 1:26-28) We receive the wisdom to use our authority from our Lord from the throne of grace.

I give wisdom to those who ask.

James 1:5 Is the Bible’s clearest promise to receive wisdom when we ask. I have been asking. My spirit received this reminder of our Lord’s promise as a gentle, calming encouragement. “Do not be anxious. Be at peace. I will not let you miss what you need to know. Remember, we have a long history of Me giving you wisdom. Relax with Me and enjoy our relationship.” At that I sat back and took a deep breath.

I give strategies to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear what I’m saying and doing.

Strategies are given repeatedly throughout the Word of God. The Lord says often in Revelation 2 & 3 “He who has an ear to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches….” Ezekiel 40:4 and Matthew 13:16 say more about hearing and seeing.

Come up here to receive, rest in me and I will act.

Then we come to rest. It may be one of, if not the most powerful demonstrations of faith we have. Rest that brings positive change is not recreation, not distraction, or escape. It is about centering on Jesus, trusting, and allowing Him to fulfill His promises. Something powerful happens when we release our grip of control off any situation, leaving it in the hands, and heart, of the Almighty.

We all have situations in our lives that are beyond our control. Now is the perfect time to leave it all with the Lord. Let’s “come up here” so we can pull down what we need, because every good and perfect gift comes from above. =}

Abba, we thank you for the wisdom you willingly give to all who ask. We also ask for eyes to see and ears to hear how we can cooperate with You, as You move in ways we can not understand on our own. Thank you for strategies and rest. Life is so much easier when we stop swimming upstream and choose to enter your flow. We surrender our earthly plans to your eternal and supernatural plans.

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
