The Blind See

The blind see, today, anywhere in the world, including the USA.

Earlier this week a friend texted me asking if I would be at the weekly worship and prayer meeting at my church. I did not read the text when it first came through because I had a full day and felt I had to keep moving.

When I read further, she followed it with why she was asking:

“I have a serious vascular issue with my eyes and Need hands on prayer.”

I told her I’d be there.

Honestly, I was exhausted by the time I walked in a couple minutes late. I scanned the room and she had not yet arrived.

The session began with soaking, so I stretched out across a few of the well-padded chairs. With the lights low, I worshiped and prayed vertically while my body joined in horizontally.

I was happy that I did not have the personal resources to even try to help the blind see in my own strength.

As the meeting approached the final official moments, I noticed she had arrived. Led by the Spirit, they closed with the hymn “Nothing but the blood of Jesus.” Seemed highly appropriate for the moments ahead.

When we connected, she told me she was going blind after a concussion six months earlier.

Doctors had tried “everything.” The medications were becoming a complication as well as a help. Her sight was severely diminished.

Their prognosis was total blindness.

Now it was time to come before the throne of grace. Two friends joined me for prayer, each of us praying in turn, in the name and authority of Jesus.

The lights were low where we were, so we moved to the hallway to see the effect of our  prayers.

The blind see.

We encouraged her to keep thanking Jesus, especially as the enemy would not like her story to spread the word of the goodness and the power of Jesus.

When she arrived home, she sent me another text:

“Ok so it really is gone!! My eyes are completely normal! Praise God”

“Wow I really can’t believe it. I have had prayer teams praying for 6 months and God tells me to come for hands on healing, and it’s gone !!”

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
