Marvels of Creation

Marvels of creation are everywhere. How many striped roses have you seen? I bought these rose bushes on sale about three falls ago. The have become the beauty of the neighborhood. The occasional striped ones are a bonus. Ninety-nine percent of these bushes are solid pink. The rest are red or striped. If you look carefully at the pink one on the back left of the photo you can see it is two shades of pink.

This is the Garden of the gods. They are marvels of creation in large format. Situated in the foothills of the Rockies, these jut up out of the ground on the north side of Colorado Springs. With the little geology I took in university, I suspect they are on a fault line between the plains and mountains. These pushed up on the edge of the plains but likely remained under ground. Over time, erosion uncovered them. They are spectacular in the changing light.

Marvels of creation in miniature. Have you ever held a live hummingbird? I have been blessed to do so. Several had frozen on the side of a Rocky Mountain cabin on a cold and stormy night one summer. Most of them revived and flew away after thawing on the top of a black surface in the morning sun. I was grateful to help in the rescue effort.

Marvels of creation in a display of light. Recently, as the sun set between rain storms, these brilliant rays broke out from under the clouds. It was one of the most glorious displays of natural light I have seen. Of course it was better than the photo can do justice.

What do you see in these marvels? Do they suggest anything to you about our Creator?

What marvels of creation have you encountered? Can you think of some spectacular, or peculiar, things you have seen or experienced in your lifetime? Have any of them altered your mindset about the One who made us? I would love to hear from you. . . .

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
