Worship is the road to overcoming. Jesus told the the woman at the well in John 4. “But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” V 23-24.
Worship brings us into alignment with our Creator and His will for our lives. When Jesus’ followers asked Him how to pray, he replied in Mattew 6:
“Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” V 9-10.
Putting God first, worshiping in Spirit and in truth, brings us under the authority of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In doing this many things happen, here are a couple. We step into our authority as His chosen Children, as Ambassadors, and as His Royal Priesthood. Walking in our positions of authority opens the door for us to call, even command, for His will be done across the earth. The scriptures inform and guide us in praying for love and righteousness to reign.
John 10:10 reminds us there is an enemy who is here to steal, kill and destroy. Life here is actually a war, and we are in training to reign with Christ for all eternity. I like to think our best response to the enemy is worship, which is why I sometimes call it warship. It is not an option. And corporate worship releases exponential power from heaven to earth as we align, exalting our Creator.
To help us find and stay in right alignment, Jesus also gave us a few other things to ask for in that prayer:
“Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.” V 11-13
Our worship, or warship, opens the doors to provision for our needs, (not necessarily wishes or whims.)
By forgiving and releasing those who offend us, we draw on the grace Jesus extended to us. This gives us access to His super-natural power.
Warship also gives power to overcome the temptations and attacks from the enemy of our souls. Worship leads us to the abundant life Jesus promised. We become victorious over-comers, no longer tossed by the winds of the other forces around us. (James 1) From our place of overcoming, we can affect change for the Kingdom of God here on earth. That is how powerful this worship/warship alignment is.
Let’s worship our way through this next week. May we align with heaven, calling down God’s will on earth as the over-comers He created us to be.
