My way used to be my favorite route to accomplish whatever I set out to do. That is, until doing things my way clearly proved to not be as great as I originally thought. Back when I was 16 I first met the One who is the High Way. However, it took several years for me to begin to understand that The High Way was the best choice to live by.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT
The High Way is indeed different from how we naturally tend to look at circumstances on our own. Our fallen tendency is to stay focused on me, myself and I. The shift most often begins from the valley. Seeing our need for the High Way most often begins when we are stuck in My Way.
His thoughts are far more creative. Imagine a large artist canvas. It is so large we can stand next to it and we look like an ant in the left corner. To see the full image you would have to move up a large mountain to begin to see enough of it to make sense of what the image is.
God allows us to make decisions and choices from our little My Way understanding of the left hand corner. The best plan is to accept the standing invitation to come up to His High Way.
What God really wants is for us to ask. He wants to show us the big picture, His High Way. Like the view from a mountain top or a jet liner, we can have a broader view. Even then we will be in awe of how His Ways are much Higher Ways still. The amazing thing is we are friends of God and he is excited to lead us. “The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.” Psalm 25:14
“This is what the Lord says—the Lord who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the Lord: Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come. Jeremiah 33:3
Are you lost or stuck? Ask for the High Way.
