A few years back I was at a conference and they were sharing about a campaign they used to draw the interest of people. They made t-shirts to wear, each with one positive word on it. The idea was that one positive word was how our Creator describes them. I was in a difficult time in my life. Being confident of one positive word describing how God views me was not coming easily. An acquaintance of mine came up to me and whispered in my ear, “Cherished. You are cherished by God.”
I don’t know my friend well, we live in different states, but I thank God for her. The word cherished made me cry… in a very good way. Her lack of knowledge of me made the gift of the word cherished all the more special. It was from the One Who Made me. My weary soul and spirit hungered for kindness. This friend spoke truth to me. To know that I am highly prized by the God of all creation touched me in a way I was not accustomed to. I was out of the practice of receiving kindness. She only spoke what God told her and It landed well.
When I got home the next week I went out and had a t-shirt made with CHERISHED on it. And yes it opened a few conversations.
What word does God want you to carry with you in this season? Take a few minutes to ask your Maker, then listen. Do not be quick to push a favorable and loving word out to the way. Remember John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Go with the loving whispers from your Creator. (I would love if you would share with me what you hear!)
