I Declare!

I declare…declarations can lead us higher!

To declare something these days seems so old-fashioned. We know about the Declaration of Independence, but beyond that, what’s the use? There are many good reasons to declare. It is an effective way to help us renew our minds. (Romans 12:1-2) It is a fact of science that our words matter. Dr. Caroline Leaf is a scientist and follower of Jesus who has studied the brain in-depth for decades. She has written books and lectured on the effect of our thoughts and words in our brains.

Declarations by definition are spoken words. The world was created by the spoken words of Creator: declarations. As humans we are made in the image of God. Then our Creator gave us authority over all creation. As Creators spoken word is powerful, so is ours.

Declarations affect us and those around us. When we declare truth others stop and listen, consciously or unconsciously. We can declare for good health, optimism, perseverance and so much more.

My personal will and authority to declare on my own is questionable. Declaring with the spiritual authority of our Creator is what makes declarations significant and brings a response. Declaring the will of God from the Bible brings the authority to an entirely different level. From that source of authority we know that it pleases God and brings positive answers.

1 John 5 (NLT) tells us how confident we can be. “14 And we are confident that he hears us when we ask for anything that pleases him. 15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.”

This is where being a student of the Word of God is a big help. It is not wise to pull out only the parts of verses that please us without getting the context of what Our Creator intends. Fortunately, there are many promises in the Bible that are clear statements of the will of God.

The following link is a great resource of already prepared Biblical declarations  we can use. A few years ago I declared “Steve’s Daily Declarations” in that link, out loud, daily, for literally months. It made a noticeable difference in my life on many levels. It helped me to recognize lies I once believed then replace them with the truth. I began having discernment in situations around me bringing clarity I really needed. I started understanding who God says I am and why I am alive in ways I never grasped before.

Proverbs 18:21a says, “The tongue can bring death or life;” Abba, help us to know your will and your word. Show us how we can make a difference for us and those around us by declaring truth to bring breakthrough in the areas we and others are currently stuck. Lead us to the promises that speak specifically to felt needs.

Part of “Steve’s Daily Declarations” to give you a taste.

  • I walk in ever-increasing health (Psalm 103:1-3, Isaiah 53:5).
  • I live under supernatural protection (Psalm 91).
  • Like Jesus, I prosper in all my relationships (Luke 2:52).

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
