Dimensions and Perspectives

As I sat on the top of this mountain enjoying the view, Abba began speaking to me about dimensions and perspectives.

I enjoy photography, so I often think about perspective. (Learn more here.) I pray frequently that I would have Abba’s eternal perspective from His throne of grace. The view from a different angle and especially a higher elevation broadens our understanding of what we are seeing and what our Creator is doing.

All followers of Jesus are spiritually seated with Him in the heavenlies. (Ephesians 2:6 ) That is not only a different perspective, but also a different spiritual dimension from where we live physically.

We are both physical and spiritual beings, and we live in both dimensions simultaneously.

Dimensions allow us to measure shapes, sizes, and places.

When we grasp the dimensions of something we increase our capacity for wisdom and discernment concerning physical and spiritual relationships between us, our Creator and the world around us.

With more accurate dimensions and advantageous perspectives, we intercede more easily from the heart of our Creator. Matthew 6:10

Let me clarify a bit by referring to this week’s photo.

When I look at the photo, I see the rocks in the foreground. This represents where we live physically, where we transact our physical lives. This is where I stood to capture the image.

Then the couple sitting in the distance. I do not know them and did not meet them. Their presence in the image, however, helps me measure and better understand what is before me. They add dimension to my perspective.

Even though we are looking in the same direction, their perspective does not take in all the dimensions I experience from my higher vantage point. For example, they do not know I am there.

Beyond them is the prairie, and I love seeing the clouds raining above it. I see the rain evaporating before it reaches the ground. If I was under the clouds and do not look up, I might not realize it is raining above me, because my perspective is greatly limited.

These physical dimensions and perspectives allow me to more accurately assess what is happening. This is true in the spiritual as well.

When we only look at the rocks in the foreground, we miss the big picture.

As physical and spiritual beings:

Disciples of Jesus constitute a royal priesthood, 1 Peter 2:9,

with authority to reign over creation. Genesis 1:26-28

Intercession is arguably our primary means of reigning in our spheres of influence. Romans 8:26-27

Praying God’s will into existence (learn more here) necessitates us knowing what His will is. Greater awareness of different dimensions and perspectives begins heightening all our physical and spiritual senses.

Abba, I thank you for this wonderful world we live in. I do not understand it all, but I know you want me involved beyond the “rocks in my foreground”. I ask You for continual growth in understanding the dimensions and perspectives of the physical and spiritual worlds I occupy. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
