“I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

A way in the wilderness!

When we focus on the present and the immediate next steps before us, we are in the “faith space.” Our Creator promises us that He will make a way in the wilderness. What does wilderness look like to you? Or the desert? One overgrown, one barren, but both very difficult to navigate.

Not many of us have literally bushwhacked through thick underbrush with a machete. That’s my idea of wilderness. But most of us disciples of Jesus have repeatedly found ourselves in the spiritual metaphor of wilderness and deserts.

Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I am doing a new thing;
    now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
    and rivers in the desert.

When God is doing a new thing, the familiar can begin to seem to like a wilderness…until we start to perceive the new ways and learn to cooperate with them.

When that happens, when we join in fully with the new, the vistas open and become like a river to flow with. The power is no longer our own, but it comes from the Giver of Life, the Spirit of the Living God.

Rest in the goodness of the Giver with obedience to the law of Love. Add measures of perseverance, patience and humble dependence upon our good Creator, which are sure ingredients to fresh perception and cooperation with the will of God.

Is there any area of your life you feel stuck in? Breathe.

The one who made us knows us. He loves us and is more interested in us finding the way he has set for us than we are in finding it.

Thank you Abba for your many promises to lead us and to protect us. As I breathe, I give you my frustration. Fill me a fresh with your Holy Spirit as you have promised to do! “17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might*….”  AMEN!

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
