Breathe into The Shift

Last week in prayer I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Breathe into the shift.”

That instantly made a lot of sense to me, though it may not mean much to you, . . . yet.

I began writing about shifts nine years ago, so they are on my radar. And I am currently reading a new book a friend of mine just published. Artists at a Shift in Time: Courage in an age of conflict and change.

I also have become a great fan of slowing down, especially when faced with a challenge. That’s when I love to stop and literally breathe, taking a long, deep breath.

Recently, a good friend of mine heard Bishop Garlington speak about what we are living through these days. My paraphrased summary: Chaos is blowing all around looking for a way to come into order.

And that is our call to prayer. “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10

We stand in the gap between the chaos and Our Creators plan.

In that place we listen for what our Creator wants to see happen. What does order look like for this particular chaos?

This is a great place to breathe, because as my friend’s book title suggests, we may need more courage.

As we breathe into the shift Abba desires, the next step is praying God’s will into existence. In reality, Abba uses our Holy Spirit breathed prayers to shift things toward His order. Ezekiel 22:29-31

Our breath is important.

Breathing into the shift helps push aside the chaos so we can hear the will of God.

When we are students of the Word of God,

and willingly obey it,

this develops our relationship with our Creator,

and we hear more easily.

May we breathe into the shift, looking for our opportunity to pray our Creator’s order into the chaos.

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
