The King of Glory

Psalm 24 begins by describing the King of Glory with some key facts.

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.
The world and all its people belong to him.
For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas
and built it on the ocean depths.

David opens with the facts: Everything, and everyone, belongs to our Creator. There are no exceptions. Then he asks some rhetorical questions, because on our own, no one qualifies.

Who may climb the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
Only those whose hands and hearts are pure,
    who do not worship idols
    and never tell lies.

When we are honest, we understand that no one rises to the standards of verse four. This is, however, written in pre-Jesus times. From here, we live with the revelation of the first coming of the Messiah. Now, we understand that our righteousness happens through believing, that the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross alone satisfies our guilt.  John 14:6

They will receive the Lord’s blessing
and have a right relationship with God their savior.
Such people may seek you
and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob.   Interlude

By accepting His freely offered righteousness, we receive all the rights and privileges of family. We belong. Now, as family, we can celebrate our Creator, together.

Open up, ancient gates!
    Open up, ancient doors,
and let the King of glory enter.

Who is the King of glory?
    The Lord, strong and mighty;
    the Lord, invincible in battle.

Open up, ancient gates!
    Open up, ancient doors,
and let the King of glory enter.

10 Who is the King of glory?
    The Lord of Heaven’s Armies—
he is the King of glory.   Interlude

“Seek the Kingdom of God[e] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Matthew 6:33-34

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
