Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem – Psalm 122:6

How do we pray for the peace of Jerusalem in times like these? Honestly, this writer is pretty speechless. But because a special request was made, I will offer a thoughtful but incomplete answer.

Last weekend the Jewish people experienced the worst tragedy since the German Holocaust. The horror of it and the resulting trauma and grief is beyond my personal imagination. That said, those of us outside the tragedy, must not take on the fear and trauma on ourselves.

We must be the people who “go between” their pain and situations in intercession by carrying it to the Lord, and leaving it there.

I chose Psalm 122:6  because Jerusalem is the central the city of Israel. The definition of the name Jerusalem is “pointing the way to completeness.” So much of the meaning of life flows from this city in Israel, and the Hebrew people.

Jesus said to the disciples to wait there until you, “. . . receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Jesus, the Messiah, was crucified, buried, and resurrected there, to reconcile us to our Creator.  Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us that we cannot assume we understand what is happening around us.

I believe we are on the forefront of many more things we will not be able to grasp, unless we seek the face of God above all else.

How can we intercede in these times? we pray for the peace of Jerusalem. I pray this inspires you to find many more categories with corresponding passages of scripture.

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
