The Word

Jesus is the Word of God. John 1:

1 “In the beginning the Word already existed.
    The Word was with God,
    and the Word was God.”

When we go back to the beginning in Genesis 1, Elohim, the Hebrew for God, is plural. Those who believe Jesus is the Messiah, accept that Elohim includes the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

He existed in the beginning with God.

Before the world we live in was made, . . . Jesus existed. He was present with the Father, and Holy Spirit, actively making the world. The God Man, Jesus, participated fully in the creation of space, time, and matter. He created all of it. (Psalm 139)

God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.”

All things were created by speaking. “Then God said,” is seen 13 times in the first three chapters of Genesis. “Then God said,” is seen 123 times across the NLT.  The three in One uses words, wisely and ingeniously.

The Word gave life to everything that was created,[a]
and his life brought light to everyone.”

Because Jesus, the human representation of Elohim, spoke the word of life into existence, He knows everything about everything. The “light in our eyes” is a demonstration of the fact we are created in the image of Elohim. Among other things, that means not one of us is a mistake.

The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.[b]

By definition, darkness, is the absence of light.

It is Jesus, the Word, who made light and became light on earth. He is the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, sustaining our every breath. John tells us, “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

We all have the same invitation to a life that is eternal and abundant. “And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.” 2 Timothy 1:10

Do you want to get to know our Creator God? The God who loves us so much, that He sent His only Son, Jesus, so that whoever believes in Him would have eternal life.

We have the Bible. We have the Word so we can continually grow in relationship with the lover of our souls.

How will you respond to the standing invitation of the Word?

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
