The idea of experiencing God has been rolling around in my heart and mind for several days. It began when I read the footnote to the word “insight” in the following prayer by Apostle Paul in Philippians 1 of The Passion Translation.
9 “I continue to pray for your love to grow and increase beyond measure, bringing you into the rich revelation of spiritual insight in all things.”
The word insight is translated from a word meaning experiential knowledge. Like riding a bicycle, one can’t learn to do it by watching, or reading about it, or listening to an explanation. Those are all helpful for the moment one mounts a bike, but one must get on a bike and try until they succeed.
Looking at the same verse, we learn that receiving the love of God for us is a prerequisite to opening the revelation we need to experience God. It is also what we need to grow in this relationship.
10 “This will enable you to choose the most excellent way of all— becoming pure and without offense until the unveiling of Christ.”
Paul continues by inviting us to the “most excellent way.” By choosing to forgive others, and ourselves, we can grow constantly in the love of God.
When we are experiencing God, I love the following result.
11 “And you will be filled completely with the fruits of righteousness that are found in Jesus, the Anointed One—bringing great praise and glory to God!” Philippians 1:9-11 TPT
Abba, like Paul, I pray his prayer for us. May we all grow in Your perfect love, experiencing You more deeply and broadly, choosing forgiveness and reaping all your loving benefits until you return. To You be all the glory! Amen
