Willing Something New

Willing something new to happen is not as easy as it seems. As we move further into 2023, we may or may not have made New Year’s resolutions. For those who have, how are you doing? There is something about declarations of change that brings opposition, from within, and without.

I think the foundational question may be: Are we willing to go forward differently than the way we arrived here? With that I ask, what can inspire us to change or adapt?

Mary the mother of Jesus was given a spectacular invitation, and her reply was emphatic:

“’Yes! I will be a mother for the Lord! As his servant, I accept whatever he has for me. May everything you have told me come to pass.’ And the angel left her.” Luke 1:38 TPT

What would you do if a massive and impressive angel appears to you, informing you that your life would radically change? Life would probably involve ridicule and scorn, but the invitation carries positive, eternal consequences.

We are not facing Mary’s invitation; however, change around us is happening at an almost dizzying pace. Mary said Yes. She did have a question about the process, but not a question doubting that God’s will was best, and could be done.

Are we willing to Seek Abba’s face, asking how we, each induvial, is being invited to participate in our days of rapid change? Not only our own real or perceived needs, but to be ahead of the curve, or ride the wave of “the new” for the grand plans of God?

I for one do not want to crash in the surf, sticking with the last analogy.

We are all being invited to see and hear with eternal perspective, beyond how we have “always done it.” We all have integral parts to pick up. All of us have eternal purpose with our callings and destiny. He Chose us before the beginning of time. John 15:16

Obviously, few if any of us, will see Angel Gabriel or hear an audible voice telling us what’s next. I am, however, talking about our attitudes towards our current life and our Creator. We are not Mary, but are we willing to do our part?

What is it worth to us?

“My old self has been crucified with Christ.[e] It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

Pause. . .

Rest in His presence. . .

Ask yourself, and Abba, these and other, similar questions. . .

Abba, Son, and Holy Spirit is more interested in you finding and completing your destiny through these new ways than you are.

Can we let go of our ways and yield to the goodness of our Creator?

It’s a big ask, but are we willing to be more like Mary?

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
