Stop At The Crossroads

“Stop at the crossroads and look around.
Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it.
Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.”

“But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’” Jeremiah 6:16

This verse actually begins with, “This is what the Lord says:” Thousands of years ago our Creator wanted their attention, and I believe he wants ours again, or still.

Abba is inviting us to stop for a while in the middle of the hustle of our lives. Especially now, as we are half way through the Advent season, a season of anticipation. Family is important, and gifts can be fun as they bless others. But. . .

What are we really looking for?

What is the old, godly way?

Ask. . .

Can this path really fulfill the promise to give us rest for our souls?? That is a big promise.

How did the people Abba was speaking to though Jeremiah reply?

“No, that’s not the road we want!” They rebelled at the invitation. When we read past their response, it is easy to see that they definitely did not receive rest for their souls.

All of humanity is invited. Many do not accept the invitation.

May we all stop at the crossroads of rest for our souls, and rebellious disaster. In this time of anticipation, may we stop for as long as it takes for us to enter the rest.

Ask. . . .

I pray the holy hush of the presence of our Creator will transform you, and open up new horizons of God’ infinite possibilities. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
