Grace is Amazing

Grace is amazing because it is complete and we can’t earn it. When I think over my life, I am in awe that Jesus would die so I could begin an eternal relationship with Him. I have attempted to maintain an attitude of love of others and service to the God of the Bible. I have also failed miserably in so many ways.

On my own, I can never earn enough favor, or pay God back, for even a portion of my selfishness or injury to others. The enemy of our souls wants us to live in that failure. Our God of unearned love and forgiveness has another plan

“For it was only through this wonderful grace that we believed in him. Nothing we did could ever earn this salvation, for it was the gracious gift from God that brought us to Christ! So no one will ever be able to boast, for salvation is never a reward for good works or human striving.” Ephesians 2:8-9 TPT

“. . . for salvation is never a reward for good works or human striving.”

That phrase brings me to tears of gratitude, even as I struggle with the enemy pelting me with lies, saying I must strive to be free and forgiven. The truth is that God’s grace is amazing because its completeness makes me whole in the eyes of our Creator. That satisfaction is what is real and true, not the lies. My, and your, relationship with our Creator is based on what our Creator has done, not what we have done for Him.

From the beginning of time, people like you and me have been constructing forms of religion to reach God. All religions crumble because God is holy, and perfect, and apart from Messiah, we never will be. We need help. God’s grace is amazing because it does not weigh us down with rules. Instead, we are all created for relationships of love. This fact invites us into relationship with Jesus, our savior.

Think about John 15:16 when Jesus begins with, “You did not choose me, but I chose you. . . .”  He knows who we really are and He still chooses us! We are all “hand-picked,” chosen and cherished. Too often we are distracted. We forget the truth and try again to live in a graceless structure. Hooray for Paul who often shakes us back to the truth.

“For if I start over and reconstruct the old religious system that I have torn down with the message of grace, I will appear to be one who turns his back on the truth. 19 “But because the Messiah lives in me, I’ve now died to the law’s dominion over me so that I can live for God. 20 “My old identity has been co-crucified with Messiah and no longer lives; for the nails of his cross crucified me with him. And now the essence of this new life is no longer mine, for the Anointed One lives his life through me — we live in union as one! My new life is empowered by the faith of the Son of God who loves me so much that he gave himself for me, and dispenses his life into mine!” Galatians 2:18-20 TPT

Grace is amazing because our cooperation with grace creates a life flow of faith, hope, and love that is impossible to maintain any other way. Like the waterfall in the photo, the flow of grace is gentle, but constantly available.

What might it look like for you as you exchange works and striving for the invitation to go with the flow of grace? May Abba meet you in new ways as you experience just how grace is amazing.

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
