We Live in Strange Days

We live in strange days. Little or nothing is as it was. Animosity and fear are loud and they hunger for our attention. These are strange days because so much is changing and feels foreign. We often do not know what to expect. Off balance may be another way to express these days of transition we are living through. But what does the Word of God say?

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:27

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19

“You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you. (2 Chron. 20:17).

We are called to dependance on the King of Kings and the LORD of Lords. We are not our own, we have been bought with a price. He loves us with an everlasting love. We are carved us on the palm of His hands. He was pierced for our transgressions. He invites us to dwell in His continual presence and to gaze upon His beauty.

Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:5-8

Yes, we see there are some conditions as we see in James, but Abba has made it easy for us to come and rest when we learn to focus on the giver of love and not the loud, intimidator. Our peace can run deep when we rest in the one who know these strange days would be part of out lives, but is also the One who will lead us through them.

Who has the real over our lives? The ultimate power?

Who will we choose to listen to and look to?

The choice is there for each of us.

Abba, I pray we all can still ourselves before you. In the mighty name of Jesus, silence the voice of the accuser in our lives. At the same time we take responsibility for all, but only, the things Holy Spirit shines light on for us to come out of agreement with. Those things we hand over to Jesus and we submit to His loving Lordship.

We praise and thank you that the enemy cannot stay in our presence when we do that, and he must flee. We bless you and thank you for the myriad promises in your Word that realign us with you, lead us in genuine peace: the wholeness and unbrokenness of Shalom. Teach us to always perceive what YOU are doing.

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
