Contemplate These . . .

Contemplate is a verb most of us do not engage with enough these days. Granted, over the past six months we have all had more opportunities than in the preceding six months. To contemplate is to think deeply. Today I am returning to my photography to invite you to contemplate these photos, to think deeply about something beautiful.

I am tempted to give you instructions, however, my prayer is for you to engage with any one, or all, of these images in a personal way. So, I will attempt to keep it simple. Please make time to sit and focus for a few minutes. Abba, I pray for a sanctified imagination. Help me to take time to contemplate so that you can lead me more deeply, wherever it is you want me in this time.

Ask yourself, and God, questions. Technical, theological or not, personal, artistic . . . all are good if they involve going deeper than: “Oh isn’t that pretty.” ;-}

As you engage, pay attention to your breath and heart rate. I am not asking you to control them. I am hoping you will enter into the images. Most are calming to me, but we are all different.

Where does your mind lead you? How do you feel about each image? where does the Holy Spirit lead you? Those three may not be the same. There is no right or wrong. “Surrender your anxiety! Be silent and stop your striving and you will see that I am God. I am the God above all the nations, and I will be exalted throughout the whole earth.” Psalm 46:10 TPT

Abba, We invite you to be our center, our anchor in the swirls of life. So many have had hopes and dreams dashed this year. You, however, are forever the same. (Hebrews 13:8) May we enter more deeply into truth as we seek your face and your heart. Thank you for all kinds of art that stirs us. May we become more alive to you every day. Be blessed as you contemplate these . . .

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
