Our Spirit in us is not a little thing. We are eternal beings but we do not remember that most of the time. I was walking on the beach with Nellie Belle last weekend. It was in the sixties, very windy, and because it is January, the sun was dipping to the horizon at 3:30pm. That angle on the sun made for great photos of our shadows.
Our long shadows made me think of the following verses:
“But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” 2 Corinthians 3:16-18
Speaking for myself, I find it really easy to forget that I am not only flesh and bone. The truth is that while our spirits are eternal, these bodies we use now will return to dust. That makes me wonder how best to make the most of our spirits here and now.
Once our spirit initially connect with the Lord, we begin to reflect or Creator’s glory more each day. We begin to grow into who we are meant to be and learn to live in the freedom we are meant to live in.
Abba, We all know what it is like to face our own imperfections and how other’s issues affect us. Today we choose to open ourselves to your love and care. Thank you for Jesus removing the veil. Now we yield ourselves to you asking that you bring us more and more into your freedom and glory every day. We are grateful that you want that for us even more than we do. May we all look to You so we can rest in your promises. Amen
