New Rhythm For A New Season

New rhythm for a new season

I am aware I am looking for a new rhythm for this new season. I have a long history of being active. “Busy” does not always imply working by priorities. Some years ago I worked through and created a Rule of Life. A less than one page document to help me work by priorities. I helps me to establish and maintain a healthy rhythm. Rather than saying yes to every invitation I receive to a new activity, I am able to look at my Rule of Life to see if it fits. It does not speak to my over all gifts and callings as much as it does cycles and rhythms to keep me functioning fruitfully.

As these things go. . .it was buried in my documents until I was sorting recently.

Even though it has been out of sight, I find I am not too far off from what Abba and I had established as a good working rhythm for me. From that time I have learned to say, “No” far more often than I once did. That said, this is a new season of life and a tweak or two might help.

My life now is different is several ways, one big difference is my dog Nellie Belle. She requires my attention and I need to take care of her, even though there are aspects of that which are mutual. Adding her care and feeding to my rhythm is a big change from a couple of years ago. I look forward to praying and making a few adjustments to my way of life to help me keep up a healthy rhythm

Just as the seasons change so do our life circumstances. Adjusting our rhythms as circumstances change is wise.

Are you aware of rhythms in your life? Waking and sleeping, exercise, eating, fasting, entertainment, family, friends, time in worship, reading and prayer are all things we need in our lies. Do you sense any imbalances? Perhaps you can take some time to think about what you need…and want. Knowing your priorities can help to fit in the best first.

Abba, help us all to be wise with our time. We all move to different beat and rhythms, but you are the one who has given us our beat. Help each of us to be in sync with your rhythm for our lives in this season.

About the author

Andrea Van Boven (Madden): I like to think I am a radical lover of Jesus, but I live in a house and pay bills and look like I fit in with respectable society, like most people. What goes on in my head and heart are hopefully the things that betray the look of "normal" that comes at first glance. I hope those things inside of me seep out to actions as well as words of hope and encouragement. I pray that these in turn will lead others to know the loving Creator who knows us so intimately that he has a number for every hair on every head.
