The song God of Wonders*, has been floating in my mind the last few days. I just returned from a wonderful week in the “wilderness” of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. My bedroom window over looked Lake Superior where I could watch the sun come up every morning.
I find it really easy to worship the God of all creation when I am unplugged and surrounded by the constant display of our Creators handiwork. The total otherness of the Creator is on display at every turn. This God who made everything is powerful and has the imagination to create the beauty, the ecosystems and has the ability to sustain life in all it’s forms.
Lake Superior is the largest of the Great Lakes and more like a small fresh water ocean than a lake. We experienced some tremendous storms while I was there. With one of them the waves pulled away nearly half the beach over night. It amazes me that the God who controls all that power also thought of us before creating all things.
While I am in awe of this completely transcendent, good and Holy Creator I am also in deeply touched that this Mighty One came down to our level to redeem and reconcile us through Jesus Christ. Our Creator is not only knowable, but Creator wants us to know and accept “their” love. [Their in this case is adjusted from Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created…” God in the original language here is both singular for one God and plural for Father, Son & Holy Spirit.] Before Jesus Ascended after His resurrection, He promised to send the Holy Spirit to come along side to guide and comfort us. That is who leads us in to all truth.
Is it possible to have an intimate relationship with the God of Wonders? Yes, it is. Pray: “God of wonders beyond our galaxy, You are Holy, Holy, Precious Lord, reveal Your heart to me, Father, Holy Holy” Then be alert for how God reveals himself in ways we can understand.
Lyrics below:
Lord of all creation, of water earth and sky
The heavens are Your tabernacle
Glory to the Lord on high
Chorus:
God of wonders beyond our galaxy
You are Holy, Holy
The universe declares Your Majesty
You are Holy, Holy
Lord of Heaven and Earth x2
Early in the morning I will celebrate the light
When I stumble in the darkness
I will call Your name by night
Chorus
Hallelujah to the Lord of Heaven and Earth x3
God of wonders beyond our galaxy
You are Holy, Holy
Precious Lord, reveal Your heart to me
Father, Holy Holy
The universe declares Your Majesty
You are Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy
Watch Third day perform the song here.
